What's Going On

Last night, Martin took Mia and me to The Eagle's Nest for our annual family holiday dinner, which due to finances, we've skipped for a few years.

It was nice. I had the prime rib, which was pretty much a side of beef and yummy. Mia helped me with it. Martin had bleu cheese stuffed filet mignon. The view was lovely.

I've been sick this week. I'm better now, but really, I've been sick twice since we've moved to Indy. Is it all the churchiness in the air or what?

I owe the library over twenty dollars in overdue fees because my husband didn't return a Mozart CD. I don't even like classical music that much and I'm sure I never listened to this, but I'm pretty sure there is a wanted sign at the library that says to shoot me on sight.

We got my in-laws the coolest Christmas present. It's 7.5 inch digital photo frame that we loaded about 200 pictures on. Best of all, we can just add a memory card with more pictures. I know they're going to be so tickled.

Mia lost her first tooth. I can't decide who was more excited, Mia or Daddy. Martin actually went to three different gas station/convenience stores to find a gold dollar for her. He forgot to pick up my prescription, but he toured the Circle K and Seven Eleven to find a gold dollar for the tooth fairy.

Courtesy of my friend Marla, I read Survivor, by Chuck Palahniuk. It's the most effed up, crazy book I've ever read and it's bloody brilliant.

What's up with you?

A GOLD DOLLAR!!!???

I gave dimes, and the kids considered themselves lucky!

Inflation is a terrible thing...

I didn't know they had gold dollars. Totally cool.

I went to my son's s/o fabulous annual Thanksgiving bash Saturday.

I made pies to take. I've been dubbed the official Sweet Potato Queen, according to several of the guests who loved my pies. Which reminds me, one of the guests told me about the Sweet Potato Queens' book series. She also happened to be right in the middle of the same book I'm reading; She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. Both hysterically funny and heartbreaking.

I'm going to have find Kite Runner. I've heard it's very good.

I've read the Sweet Potato Queens book. Very cute. And She's Come Undone is just an amazing read. Check out I Know This Much Is True, also by Wally Lamb. Another hilarious heartbreaker!

I guess I was a lousy parent - my son never believed in the Tooth Fairy, any more than he ever believed in Santa. He was raised to believe that Christmas was a celebration of the birth of Jesus, and that Santa and the presents were an extension of that celebration. (He was also told that a lot of kids really believed in Santa even though he knew the truth, and to not let on.) As for the poor Tooth Fairy, he just knew that a lot of kids believed it, but that the money came from their parents. We just paid up directly when he lost a tooth.

She (Mia) is soo precious. Treasure the moments. The time passes so quickly. Before you know it gold dollars are traded in for Aeropostle shopping trips,(the jeans rip up the back the first time they bend over) and she'll want tatoos and thong underware. I would know. I'm on my third teenager,

I have the Kite Runner you can borrow (if I haven't loaned it to someone already). Did Martin finish Survivor?

Mia's tooth - FINALLY!

Martin is still working on it. He reads slowly, mostly in the throne room
I want to borrow Kite Runner! I have your other two books done and might have a couple for you.

I love Chuck! I'm reading "Choke" right now.

I couldn't finish the Kite Runner. I couldn't get past a certain "night" in the book. Everyone I've talked to either loved it or felt the same way about it as I did. Good luck with it!

I bought The Kite Runner and read it in two days. It's pretty incredible. Beautiful writing. I cried more than once, and I know it's one I'll reread over and over.
